Fundraising Efforts that have been done on behalf of Voice For the Horse hold a very special place in our hearts. It is our goal to encourage people to take care of their own back yards in respect to the needs they may find for horses at rescue centers that have brought in for care. Such is the example we have set here in one of our first published articles which articulates the intent of doing this very thing Our Horses and the Touch Economic Times published in Saddle Up Magazine February 2009. Celebrating Horses In ALL Their Grace And Beauty And For Their Service To Mankind ~ This years theme for Voice For The Horse at the Mane Event Expo is about giving back to the horse ~ all horses. We are launching VFTH Kids Corner ; VFTH Equine Practitioner and Trainers Challenge and our online Advertising which include both Classified Ads and Banner Ads that are displayed through all pages of the VFTH web site. We don't want to lose what we have got; horses have served us for many years and with these changing times, and not just neccessarily due to the economic turndown, life is changing for many. Let's remember the horse's who have paved our way to freedom in the beautiful country we reside as well as look forward to new experience's with our horses of tomorrow. We invite businesses both within and out side of the horse industry and entrepreneurs alike to advertise with VFTH. Voice For The Horse Fundraiser ~ VFTH has signed on as a Team Member of the Logan Is Our Angel Team for the B.C. Children's Hospital Foundation ChildRun Fundraiser ~ June 6, 2010 ~ Please support us with your kind contribution to help kids like Logan and others that have the misfortune of having to deal with life threatening conditions. Thanks!
Voice For The Horse is pleased to participate and sign up as a team member in the ChildRun 2010 Fundraiser for the B.C. Children's Hospital Foundation. We have personally met the Poster Child for this event, Logan Johnson Lay and found her to be the kindest, most sincere young lady one could ever meet. We also learned that Logan has a horse that goes by the name Miracle who is stabled in the area of Princeton, B.C. In 2005 it was discovered that Logan had a large tumor situated in an inoperable area of her brain. Aggressive treatment with chemotherapy and radiation was her only option to save her life. With many ups and downs during these past several years, Logan is now back in school living life as a normal 12 yr old child, thanks to the innovative medical treatments she received from the B.C, Children's Hospital. We are setting our fundraising goal high in order to support Logan and other children who find themselves in this same position so please consider donating generously. Click here to log onto the Voice For The Horse ChildRun Web Site to donate for Logan's cause. Please note: If you do donate to VFTH fundraising efforts for Logan, please email us your contact information so we will be able to submit your name in our draw.

History of VFTH Fundraising
By Yvonne Allen ~ My first experience with fundraising came just after I purchased my first horse Jimmy back in 1991. I was commuting about 140 km per day to get to work, back home and then out to see the horse. With the wear and tear on the car and the time consumption involved I decided to look closer to home for a boarding facility. I had noticed some horses off in the distance of a big field down the road from where we had moved and thought this might be a good place to keep Jimmy. I went down to check out the facility but could not find an entrance way into the property, nor did I see a home, barn or even shelter for the horses so I changed my mind on this location. It was not even a week later that I noticed in the newspaper that 19 horses had been seized by the SPCA and two horses had been found dead on this same field! I was in disbelief. How could this have happened? I figured it out fast enough. I visited the SPCA and they were in need of a lot of funds to help cover the expenses for the horses they seized. I literally went to work (literally) and collected several hundred dollars cash to help ease some of the burden for the feed, care and medical expenses these horses were in need of. It didn’t feel like a lot but every dollar collected helped I am sure.
Many years have gone by now, my passion for horses had only grown deeper. It is now 2005 and I am entering my mid forties. I had just started hearing and learning more about the changes women go through at this time in their lives and I was getting pretty curious, waiting for something to happen! Well, nothing profound in my mind did although I did catch wind of a medical drug therapy that was very popular which helped to balance out women’s hormones and reduce hot flashes that many women would experience during menopause. Well, I got intrigued and thought I might stock up on some in case I needed it! Then I found out what it was; conjugated estrogen derived from a pregnant mares urine! If I wasn’t already shocked enough when I learned this you could not image what my thoughts were when I found out that the foals were most often by-products and often slaughtered only to have the mares rebred shortly thereafter, to stay on the pee line to produce more urine for the pharmaceutical companies. I understand that there was a program in place at one time to help place these foals in good homes but these days have long but past. For as long as premarin (hormone replacement therapy drug) has been around, there were for the most part no other options than to slaughter the babies and so it is in today’s time, not a likely option for the foals to move on to loving homes. I then had the opportunity to meet Bo Derek at a press release she did back in January 2008 regarding the slaughtering of horses for meat consumption. This press release held in Vancouver hit the media overnight. A new journey had begun in support for the humane and ethical treatment of the horses being shipped to Canada and Mexico from the United States to meet their destiny, the kill box. With new laws being passed throughout the states, no horse was allowed to be slaughtered in this country, in my opinion, not a good thing as the suffering only became worse for those that were trucked across the country sides to their fates. As I learned more about the Premarin Industry and Women’s Health I became over the top intrigued. I had to know everything I could find out about women and heart disease and spent several years reading, studying and developed a website called Straight To Your Heart What I got out of this project was an education and it remains online for those interested in learning about Preventive Health Care Strategies For Modern Day Lifestyles.
I knew after spending time researching the Premarin Industy and learning about the lives of PMU mares and their foals, that I had to do something to get the attention of people that were unaware of this cruel and unnatural way these horses were being forced to live. So, I signed up as a Team Captain for the Big Bike Fundraiser for the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada in the spring of 2008 to help deliver this message. I put a great team in place and raised lots of money for the Heart & Stroke Foundation. With this event put in place and me as the Team Captain, I was able to do what I set out to accomplish; educate people on alternative options for women that were taking Premarin. The event was a big success and my team At Ease Body Care ~ Love Your Heart was awarded the Heart & Stroke 2008 Big Bike Award!
With the fundraising experience and success I experienced with the Big Bike, I began to think about a way I could make this same impact and bring in these kinds of funds for horses. After experiencing the fires in Pritchard, B.C. during the summer of 2009, the theme and concept of Pay It Forward came to me ~ this time why not for out horses? It was a lot of work but I managed to put off an online auction with lots of raffles prizes given out daily at my booth at the Mane Event Expo 2009 in Chilliwack, B.C. I am pleased to be able to share with viewers of the VFTH site our first Pay It Forward Fundraiser For Horses 2009 sponsored by Voice For The Horse & At Ease Horse Care for the B.C. Interior Horse Rescue Society ~ the first of many to come!
The idea behind Pay It Forward is a simple one. Do a good deed for someone, something that will make a difference without any expectation of being paid back (in the case of VFTH we do these deeds for the horses!). The recipient of your deed (a horse owner you may have helped for example) is now challenged with the task of Paying It Forward to someone else. Their task at hand is then to Pay It Forward and do a good deed of similar merit for some other person or horse ~ ideally for three others. It doesn’t have to be a big thing, the unconditional favors can be large or small depending on whom you do it for. Your doing good deeds for three people (or three horse's in the case of VFTH) ~ and their doing good deeds for three others be it man or horse (back to us people here!) magnifies these deeds exponentially. May 31, 2010 ~ A fabulous time was had by all that participated in the filming of the made for television documentary One With The Herd at Liz Mitten Ryan's Gateway 2 Ranch!! The hospitality and leadership of Liz and her facilitators made for a very eventful week with new insights coming daily to the workshop attendees ~ me being one of them! The food was first class all the way, Liz has the most amazing Chef who prepared daily meals for all. Filming participants were at ease behind the camera too as we discovered early on in the making of the documentary that the film maker herself was a horse woman as well!! I would recommend ALL to take time out to reconnect with themselves and nature and book in for one of the fascinating E.A.R.T.H. Workshops It will be one of your best get-aways and investments you will ever make for yourself!!
