Spirit is a 20 year old American Saddle Bred Gelding and is still quite spirited, is gaited and has a very light mouth He responds very quickly to any ques when given. I have had him for 3 years now; he is not for the beginner, lots of spunk and spirit still inside of him! He is a little shy and skittish; I was told he was transported from Alabama to Utah in a trailer that never stopped and that he was possibly abused in the transport. He is very giving and wants to please, especially with reassurance at times that it’s ok. He gets along ok with other horses but prefers to be alone. He ties, trims, grooms, saddles, loads with patience and rides well-like a rocking horse. He has been bathed and had cordless clippers used for grooming which he accepts just fine. I enjoy his quiet temperament, he has never reared, bucked or kicked, and certainly never bitten, he is not mean, just a gentle giant (16.2 hands) that does whatever is asked of him with a little confidence build up from time to time. Spirit is also more of a ladies horse due to past experiences being handled by an overpowering man. He loves spearmint hard striped candy’s, his favorite and is a very easy keeper. His front ankles have a little swelling on them, not sure at all what’s going on, he has never been lame and trims fine. The people I got him from told me he has a bone spur and navicular on one front leg, but never got me any proof from their vet with x-rays they say were done. We have nine horses already in our herd which keeps us very busy so feel that if we can get Spirit into a new home where he will be cared for well and exercised, he would have a more fulfilling life.
