“News Update!! March 11, 2008 ~ A herd of 100 horses has been seized by the SPCA from a Northern Alberta farm and are in dire need of help. The horse community in the area has pulled together for a massive rescue operation. Any donation at this time is not too small. This operation has a substantial start up cost just to get the horses to the ranch where care will be provided to bring them back to health. Please consider to give at this time and be part of a movement that will make the difference in the lives of many more horses in that they may not have to go down this road with the awareness that has now been created”.
February 28, 2010 ~ It was a very special day today, even more special when Canada won the Gold medal in men's hockey at the Winter Olympics 2010 in our hometown, Vancouver, B.C., Canada! I can not help but feel the significance of two special individuals who shared conversation with me this day in regards to the potential of change for the better for our horses of today and of tomorrow. Through a different window in time now since the 100 Horses were rescued, I felt that Voice For The Horse was finally validated in our vision and ready to move forward boldly, to take out to the world all that we have learned from our horses. Thanks to both of you, my respected collegues Kevan and Geary for sharing these amazing insights...you know who you are!

| Angel greeting Yvonne for the first time ~ carrots helped! |
The March 11, 2008 content above was a press release that came out the day that I first laid eyesupon Angel. I had been under complete distress knowing that the outcome of these horses was not a certain one after they were seized by the S.P.C.A on Feb. 26, 2008. With as much focus, time and attention I had been putting into educating myself on the welfare of horses in Canada and beyond, there was no comfort experienced as to the fate of what these horses were to experience. Not until a private facility near Edmonton, Alberta stepped in and managed to make arrangements to have the entire herd come to their facility to go under care. These horses were very close to being shipped to auction where their likelihood of being purchased over meat price was not much of an option. Prior to learning about the outcome of these horses going into long term care to be rehabbed, I met Angel at a friends barn who was showing me all her young foals. She piped up at one point and said to me “Oh Yvonne, you would really like this one”. As I glanced over to the horse that I thought she meant who was absolutely stunning she said “not that one, I mean this one over here”. Well, short, tubby, scruffy and half wild could be the only words I could define this little horse as. When she said she was a pmu foal from Manitoba my attention had been caught. I was impressed and my heart went right out for her. She was no longer fitting into the lifestyle of her present owner as she needed to reduce her herd. Not a great time to try and sell a little filly with no specific bloodlines or papers that was half wild and wormy to boot. I felt sorry for the little one and dug deep in my pocket searching for some cash which I managed to have. It was enough to satisfy the owner thankfully. My next thought was what would I do with her? I already had a horse I was boarding out but came up with a few ideas, one being to see if my friend would like to take her under his wing. This was plan A and with this I did not have to execute plan B as I knew this little filly would still be in my life too which made me very happy!
It was only moments after I paid out the cost for Angel that I got the news that the 100 Horses had been rescued and taken into the hands of caregivers committed to getting them well and finding them new forever and loving homes. I could not help but to behold this as a sign that with the unfolding of these events, considering the number of horses that were given this second chance, that the time had come where the horse would have their own voice. Today the horse has inspired many humans to in fact be their voice that can not be heard, on their behalf. I could not have been fulfilled with any more joy or enthusiasm to continue my work with VFTH, which brings us to where we are today, once again another celestine moment experienced. This little horse has impacted my life in a very strong way by her presence. Her very alpha character has made a huge impression on me and once again I am learning new and more significant lessons, taught to me through the horse.
