Children & other Equine Facilitated Therapies

Leaping the Barriers - Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows News

Voice for the Horse was at the facility where Dan Franklin was working with the daughter of Laurie Geschne on March 3, 2001. It truely was a miracle to see this heart warming event take place. Starbuck was amazing, he managed to reach deep into the young girls heart and within just minutes had her attention so strongly she could not resist her smiles and acknowledgement of being truely connected, in the moment. Please read on further and enjoy browsing through Dan's web site linked below.

March 3, 2001 -  By Michael Hall -  It took Dan Franklin 10 minutes to do what Laurie Geschke struggled to accomplish for more than 10 years and had thought was impossible. He brought her daughter to life.

Dan is an equine communications therapist, a horse whisperer, and helps children and adults overcome their physical and mental disabilities. He teaches them the gentle and unspoken language of horses. He uncovers their confidence from beneath blankets of insecurities and leads them to the edge of self-sufficiency.“A lot of the kids have a real tough time opening up to human beings,” said Dan, who lives in Williams Lake. “A lot of them are non-verbal, but they don’t have any trouble .”

Franklin Levinson's - World of Equestrian & Horsemanship

Horse Therapy -  Changing Lives - As published in "Your Horse Magazine" -  A special report by Julie Brown

In the US, bringing horses together with children who have mental or emotional disorders has had startling results. Julie Brown talks to Franklin Levinson who's bringing this kind of therapy to the UK. Children with autism and attention deficit disorder often struggle to communicate - but put them with horses and they can achieve so much. That's what American Franklin Levinson found when he introduced Equine Facilitated Learning (EFL) to children with serious emotional challenges.

Therapy with horses has been around for ages, but what Franklin did was to take the work of the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association a step further to help children with severe anti-social behavior. Visit Franklin Levinson's web site at Way of the Horse and be sure to watch the U-Tube video that shows a young boy working with Franklin and a horse!

Grieving children find comfort at horse camp

Horse camps for children are not uncommon, but the Horse Whisperer Grief Camp in Chilliwack, B.C., is special - each child has lost someone close to them.

The camp was organized by the Chilliwack and Langley Hospice Society in hopes it would encourage more conversation and reflection about their losses. Click here to watch video and read more
