"In my position as General Manager of Cruelty Investigations for the BC SPCA, I have witnessed not only terrible cases of animal neglect and abuse, but also heroic stories of animal triumph. Horses in BC are no stranger to neglect. In 2009, the BC SPCA responded to a record number of horse neglect and abuse cases and ended up rescuing over 125 horses from these horrific situations. Many of these seized horses faced long and hard recoveries that ultimately led to their adoption to new, committed and loving owners. The bond between human and horse can be a remarkable one! However, horse ownership comes with many responsibilities. Rescuing abused and neglected horses is an important role of the BC SPCA and other committed and responsible horse rescues, however, education emphasizing responsible horse ownership and strengthening the horse/human bond is equally, if not more important. Ultimately it is our dream that thru organizations that promote these respectful relationships such as Voice For The Horse we will see an end to horse neglect and abuse".
