Hello All,
This won't be a daily occurence unless there is something worth mentioning.
The petition http://www.gopetition.com/online/23978/signatures.html now has almost 2000 names from all over the place. There were 1000 last night!
The CEO of the SPCA, Craig Daniel, whom I spoke to today, has determined that there will be a separate accounting for these horses if the donation is made out as BCSPCA/Langley Horse Rescue. If you have aleady made a donation to BCSPCA/Cruelty Investigation, don't worry, it will still end up in the same account. Craig has stated that they will keep track of all expenses so that when the time comes, the previous owners of these horses can be held responsible for all costs in rehabilitating the animals they abused.
The vets/abusers; Mark Morohn and Carol Schoyen were loading a uhaul today. If anyone is so inclined, I suspect there is a project for someone to ensure other Canadian veterinary associations are aware of this pair so that PERHAPS they can be prevented from working on animals again. Once they have left the province, there is also nothing the local SPCA can do to prevent them from owning animals in future unfortunately.
There have been many people offering assistance for the care of the horses while at the SPCA for the next few weeks...thanks to all who have offered...your help will be appreciated.
Eileen Drever and the staff we have met so far from the Surrey SPCA are top drawer BUT it is still largely a volunteer organization. There is no harm offering to help with the dogs, cats, sheep and other critters. In fact, do yourself a favour and head down to your local shelter of any stripe and help clean and cuddle... it does your heart good.
Steve and Barbara
