Merry Christmas to Everybody!
Just an update to let you know that two of the remaining four horses have been hauled to their foster home this evening. As I'm typing this, they are relaxing in their huge box stalls under heat lamps (so they will be all toasty and warm) and will get tons of TLC from the ranch owner, his family, his three adult children and the live in caretaker (our own horses probably wish they could move there for a while, too :)
The other two will go to their foster home tomorrow in the morning. Kevan from 4H - Horse hauling who is a professional horse hauler, has volunteered his services. His trailer has a ramp, closed circuit TV to watch over them and box stalls so they can travel comfortably.
Steve and I have had several emails from people offering to take these horses in and after meeting with Reta and Dave last Saturday, Steve and I realized that their home was so much better equipped to take them in than ours. So we stepped aside and are very very happy that they will go to this home who can offer them a fully enclosed barn at night and their own 5 acre pasture once they feel better. As much as we wanted to foster two of them, they deserve whatever is best for them from now on for the rest of their lives.
They all will be in their own foster homes for christmas where they will be loved, fussed over and well taken care of. This is very happy news for all four of them and now they can begin their journey to becoming healthy, build up muscles and gain weight and hopefully regain a sparkle in their eyes.
An update on the legal side of this story: The SPCA has laid charges against the abusers on Monday with the Crown and now we will have to await their decision as to how to proceed (we will update after the holidays).
Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year to everybody and Thank You to you all for helping, donating, passing emails on, starting petitions and in general doing whatever one can to make a change.
Warm holiday wishes,
Barbara and Steve |
