Geary Whiting’s Equine Massage School for Horse and Rider
Back in the early 2000’s when Yvonne Allen attended my school in Northern California to learn Equine Massage I had absolutely no idea she would have this incredible vision to start such a program as Voice For The Horse. When students graduate from my program or any other massage program, and since I have been in the massage field since 1981 it is safe to state only 15-20% actually do anything with their education. When any student becomes successful, the teacher is always very happy, however, I have a little dilemma when it comes to describing how and what I feel about what Yvonne has accomplished with VFTH. I am of the opinion Mr. Webster left out the word that would truly describe Yvonne Allen and her love affair with the horse and its well being.
Eleanor Roosevelt once stated, “ Great minds talk about dreams, average minds talk about events, and little minds talk about people,” With half of my brain removed I could see this lady belongs with the greats, and I pretty much will guarantee, she will be there one day, and I will be in the front row applauding her.
There is something else that is very special, bringing in the young children was a wonderful move. They are the future, and they have the opportunity to connect with horses in a pure beautiful child like attitude, and help us adults see the horse as a child. It is interesting to note, I have seen horses that were a threat to adults but when a little child came near, they dropped their heads, put their nose up to the little person, and became very calm, almost protecting. Horses understand pure honest love. I can only imagine Yvonne as one of those little children, who has grown up and still has that precious child like quality, and has found a way to keep it going…through our children, and her dream association, Voice For The Horse. Well done Yvonne.
In closing I wish to say, please, please get involved with VFTH, get behind our children and lets make it a better place for both children and horse, and by doing so, we show Yvonne how much we support her dream, a dream that is shared by many in fact. No one has sacrificed more than this lady; I know what it has meant to her and I know what it means to many others out there to have a project like VFTH, representing the horses and an industry that has become quite challenged. I truly hope she writes her story one day for all of us to read. Dare to Dream, that is what she has done, and not just talk about dreams.
Happy Trails,

Yvonne, I just wanted to let you know how very excited I am about your writing competition and the fact that you are presenting current and unvarnished truth to the youth that are participating.
All too often our youth, as well as adults, are kept from the truth of what really happens in our world. I believe the old saying “The truth will set you free” and as hard as it can be to face at times, the truth needs to be exposed, as only with exposure and awareness can real change occur.
As someone who is all too aware of the fate of the majority of wild horses, I applaud Voice for the Horse and their efforts to bring light to the darkness of the horse world and the suffering of the innocent.
I feel that compassion for the suffering of animals is closely tied to the well being of manKIND, and any act of cruelty inflicts great harm on the psyche of the person involved. Promoting respect and kindness to animals is actually supporting the foundation of a stable society.
Thank you Yvonne and I wish you every success with this project and your website Voice for The Horse.

Essay and Art Program For Children ~ Yvonne, I would just like to express my heartfelt thanks and gratitude for you Essay and Art Program For Children. It has been my true joy to work and play with children and animals and help facilitate their common ground in both. Horses have so much to share with humans and allowing children the opportunity to learn to play with horses and make an intimate connection based on what is shared as sentient beings as well as what is different is my true joy. This program has been designed to have the children use both sides of their brain so that the message can become embodied on a level where transformation and a shift in consciousness can occur. By asking and answering these important questions and creating written essays and expressions of art, each child is learning that collaboration and integration is the meaning of relationship ~ one on one and into the community, both locally and globally. And a child shall lead us remains true and so critical for today's times and can be amended to: and a child and a horse shall walk together to lead us.
As well I would like to commend Yvonne on her forward thinking approach on the curriculum she has created for the age category 13 ~ 18 years It is this information that is so important to get out there, not only to the kids but for us, the adults of the world too so we may get a first hand glance as to what is going out in the underpublicised crisis of the plight of the wild and free American Mustang and other wild horses. There will be much gained for all that take the time to review this curriculum and I encourage you to do so!

As a writer, child support worker and business owner, I am thrilled to hear about Yvonne Allen's Voice For The Horse Children's Writing Competition. It is a perfect way to involve young people in the stewardship of our planet and encourage them to speak about nature and animals. A child who grows up appreciating nature and wanting to save it will become an adult who takes action to reduce their own carbon footprint. The young are the ones who will live with the results of adult decisions being made right now about our environment and they are rarely consulted; yet, often have the most to say. Expression of their awareness and ideas will make an important difference to us all.
One only has to see a child interacting with an animal to know that they have an inate connection with their natural world. Events like this writing competition celebrate that connection, encourage literacy and help equip children with the knowledge and the skills they need to face this planet's future challenges.

Wild horses have been a part of our Canadian Heritage for many, many years. It saddens me deeply to know that they are being rounded up and taken away from their lives living free on the range. Of course many of these horses today in fact are not the true mustang, living in this country for hundreds of years and part of our heritage, as in many cases they are feral horses; horses that have been turned out and set free by their owners that no longer want them. This has been done for many decades now, creating a most serious problem. People are mistaken to think that if they set their horses free for whatever reason that they will live out this most amazing beautiful life in the wild, but this is not true. Like the case of Atticus and his herd, these horses were ultimately rounded up and most taken to the auction where more than likely just sold for the meat on their bodies. This is shameful. Horses are the backbone of our country, without them we would not be here today. The value of what VFTH can bring into our lives is nothing short of a reminder of our heritage and our affection and love of the horse that have led our way to our current existence.
It is pleasing for me to see the work of VFTH and in particular, the Children’s Writing Competition. Hope is offered for our horses through programs such as this in that we will have more awareness out there for the horse. It is vitally important that our children have the opportunity to learn more about their heritage also and that through the encouragement of their parent’s, their children will learn to understand and feel compassion for all animals, especially for the horse as they have played such an important key role in our lives. When one can show compassion and understanding to our animals that have no voice, they help make this world a better place, which is something I fear may be lost if we do not as parents, consciously set forth to teach our children some of these most important lessons.
