My time in close companionship with horses has changed my perspective significantly forevermore. I am getting to know myself on deeper levels every day through their eyes.
~ Constance Funk
Life often throws obstacles down in our path when we feel nowhere near ready to receive them. It is so important for us to be able to feel our way through such times, often blindly, and re-discover how we fit into the world. Holy as Thou, a delicious mix of memoir and horse-related anecdotes, is a deeply moving book that can help.
Funk’s stories describe how she has overcome the darkest moments in her life, often through the mystery of faith and connection with horses, seeing, as they do, what is on the other side of the fence. Funk re-tells her own true experiences in the simplest heartfelt language. She speaks of keeping the mind open and engaging with life by welcoming the unknown Divine presence into our consciousness. She explains how horses help us do that through their keen attention to the natural world, a world we often forego in our busyness and material pursuits.
Funk asks: “Does God use the trees and the wind and the animals to touch our hearts so deeply that we become tuned into the mystery of the oneness of all life?”
This gracious book will remind the reader of the miracles to be found in everyday life and the ability of animals to open our minds to those miracles. Treat yourself or consider it as a unique gift for the contemplative equestrian in your life.
Constance Funk has been a lifelong lover of animals and nature. She has a passion for inviting children to Woodylane Farm in Washington State to learn about animal care and communication, where she also hosts equine-guided development workshops and is available for inspirational public speaking.
